Description
East of Heraklion city there is a unique part of the Cretan mainland. This will be a tour to remember! Hold your breath and let the Greek & Cretan history & mythology along with the spectacular natural beauty of the mainland to mesmerize you.
Our first stop will be the Aposelemis dam. You will have the chance to admire the beautiful surrounding nature along with the drowned Sfendyli village. Wonderful views and a place to remember. Then you will enjoy a traditional Greek coffee at the scenic square of Kritsa village, under the massive historical plane tree. After that, we lead to the plateau of Lasithi. On our way, there is one more stop at the monastery of “Kardiotisa”, where you will learn about the religious traditions of Crete.
The first villages are appearing as we drive up to the plateau. The unique view of the windmills and the mountains around will take your breath away. Over Psychro village there is one of the most unique natural monuments of the island, “Dikteon Andron”. This is the birthplace of Zeus, the father of all gods, according to the mythology. You will walk up to the mountain (~1km) to reach the entrance of the cave. There, the mysterious and eerie environment will surprise your inner world. The stalactites and stalagmites are creating an amazing natural miracle and the history of the sight won’t let you down.
At the end of this journey, you will tour around Lasithi plateau and its charming villages before you arrive for a traditional Cretan lunch. You will be dropped off at your hotel after a day full of new experiences and memories.
